You suggest some thought provoking ideas. For me, the notion of putting a relationship with God before family is strange. My mother had this same philosophy and it tended to keep her emotionally distant. Putting God before other people makes it unnecessarily difficult to have close relationships with other people. Ultimately, it seems selfish. But maybe that's just me. Since God is omniscent he already knows everything I'm going to do. So what I actually do seems irrelevant. God already knows the outcome.
