Page Rank isn’t About Links

Page Rank isn’t about links, it’s true. Page Rank is Google’s silly way of giving us value on our domains, but trust me, links don’t matter. I don’t know what actually does matter, maybe it is unique visitors, maybe amount of unique content.

Here is some proof:

I have two sites, one with about 5 incoming links, one with 1500. Which should have higher PR?

PR 3 Here are the incoming links for site 1…only about 5 links are coming from outside sites.

PR 0 Here are the incoming links for site 2…over 1,000 links coming from outside sites.

You decide, is Page Rank really about links or is the wool firmly over our collective eyes?

It can be also about the relevant sites linking to a site.

I would think, Pagerank is about the quality of incoming links. I have not checked the yahoo results provided for these 2 domains, but I am sure, that 5 links from let´s say PR7-Sites are far more better than 1500 Links from PR0-Sites. Some more factory will apply such as naturality in distribution of incoming links and some others.

I don’t think we really know what Page Rank measures. It also seems to me to vary from niche to niche, too.

As a fairly new blogger, I am determined to figure out this whole page rank thing! lol! Right now, I’m still a “0″ but have been working on getting links to help my page rank…. I even started a links page, but those links don’t even seem to be counting toward anything…. Oh well… I’ll keep learning!

Haa haa. Matt Cutts once saved my life. Seriously though. The most popular pages on one of my sites is PR6, sometimes PR7.. and I’ve always assumed it’s due to the quality of incoming links, but we get a lot of PR0 incoming links that don’t add up. I’m about to launch a new service/web site form the ground up and am keeping track of everything.. how it grows, tracking, analytics

The problem with Google is they horde their secrets. My brother works there, and he refuses to tell anyone, even his own family what he does. They’re probably building black holes to increase AdSense sales.
